SBUX Features Indonesian Coconut in North America

Warung Kopi Mbah Sakijah in Blora, Central Java is an Indonesian coffee stall known for kopi santan, a cup of coffee served with coconut milk. Warung Kopi Mbah Sakijah is now a famous culinary tourism destination. It’s been featured in a variety of media outlets like Kompas newspaper, Suara Merdeka, and Net TV. Earlier this year, Starbucks Corporation (Nasdaq: SBUX) began selling a modern version of Mbah Sakijah’s kopi santan. SBUX launched its new, non-dairy product known as the single-origin Sumatra coconut milk in North America on Feb. 17. Kopi Kapal Api is one of the oldest Indonesian coffee brands. It is owned by PT Santos Jaya Abadi of the Kapal Api Group; the group established by the late business man Go Soe Loet in 1927. Go Soe Loet established his company under the name Hap Hoo Tjan, selling coffee powder in the traditional market in Surabaya, East Java. The brand Kapal Api itself only started in the 1930s.
